Trees and Shrubs
Well it finally looks like the worst of Winter is over. Although there weren’t any really deep snows, there were plenty of small ones. Most of them were complicated by extremely cold temperatures and wind that persisted for prolonged periods of time that caused all kinds of issues not only at the time, but others we will be dealing with this Spring, Summer, and beyond. Some of our plants that typically handle the colder months in our area just fine, will probably have problems related to the stress of this past Winter. If you take into to account not only the wind and the extremely cold temperatures, but then add on top of that the accumulating ice episodes we had, it has set up for an unfavorable formula for trees and shrubs. Because of the high frequency of these events, more salt and ice melt was used than normal to keep walks, drives, and streets safe. This of course had to be done, but there are going to be some undesired effects that will result from it. Depending on the amount of exposure to these materials and weather, the plants could have anywhere from a little burn to totally dying.
